Garage Door Track Realignment and Repair in Odessa

A garage door track is the rail your door's rollers ride in. When one gets knocked out of line, the door stops running true: it drags, binds, or comes down crooked. If the bend is minor and the roller channel is still open, we realign it. If a section is kinked or the channel is crushed, we replace that section. Either way, the goal is a door that travels smooth from floor to open.

Signs the Track Is Out of Line

A bent track rarely stops the door outright. The door still runs, just not evenly. One side reaches the floor before the other, the rollers scrape or catch at the same point every trip, or the door shudders as it passes one spot.

Take a look at the vertical track on each side. A bow you can see by eye, a kink near a bracket, a pinched stretch of roller channel, or a track standing off the door where it used to sit close are all reasons to stop running the door and call us. Every cycle against a bent rail puts more strain on the rollers and hardware.

Straighten or Replace

The roller channel decides it. If the channel is open and the bend is minor, we tap the rail back gradually, a little at a time, until it runs true. If the channel is collapsed or the track is severely bent or kinked, tapping won't bring it back. That section comes out and a new one goes in.

We make that call on site, with the door running in front of us. We watch the full travel of both tracks for where the door leaves a straight line, check whether the mounting brackets have worked loose and let the track drift, and look at the channel where the bend is.

How We Set It Right

Whether we straighten or replace, the track has to sit the correct distance from the door. We set that gap with a ¼-inch track-to-door spacer, then retighten the mounting hardware through the track brackets so it holds. Last, we run the door through its full travel and watch it. If it doesn't move smoothly, we're not done.

A minor bend tapped back and retightened is the short version of this job. Replacing a section takes longer, and more than one damaged track adds time on top of that. You'll know which one you're getting before we start.

If the damage goes past the track and the door itself needs replacing, we specify the new door and its installation to the wind and frost criteria in the City of Odessa's adopted residential code.

What It Costs

Single track replacement runs $150 to $300. A minor bend that only needs straightening and retightening is less work than a replacement. When more than one track needs attention, we price each one rather than folding it into a single-track number.

Call us and describe what you're seeing, and we can give you a typical range on the phone. We confirm the exact number once we've seen the channel and the hardware.

Start to Finish

Step by step, these are the main parts:

  • Disconnect the opener and place the door in the closed position before adjusting the tracks.
