What Most Repairs Run
Torsion spring replacement is $150 to $350. Cable repair or replacement runs $150 to $350 too. A lighter single door usually sits toward the bottom of that band. A wider, heavier door sits toward the top, because there is more weight on the springs and cables and more time on the job.
When you call, we can give you the typical range for what you're describing. The exact number gets confirmed once we've seen the door and know which end of the band you're in and why.
What Moves the Number
Size and weight move it more than anything. A heavier door or a wider opening takes longer to work on and puts more load on the parts we're replacing.
The rest is what we find once the door is open. Rollers are a common one. We replace worn rollers and check that each one moves freely in its track, which adds a little material and time to the visit but saves taking the door apart again later. If more than one part has failed, the quote covers each of them.

What We Check Before We Confirm a Figure
We start by lifting the door by hand. If it lifts easily, the springs are still carrying the weight and the problem is somewhere else. We look at both cables where they wind onto the drums, checking for fraying or a cable that has jumped. We check the springs, and we check each roller's movement in its track, because a roller that has stopped turning drags and wears the track.
Then we test the opener. We lay a 2×4 contact-reversal test block flat in the doorway and run the door down onto it to make sure it reverses. From the driveway, a lot of opener problems look like door problems, and this test tells them apart.
We quote the whole door, not just the spring you called about. Otherwise you can end up paying for a second visit.
Odessa Houses and Lots
The median house here was built in 1978, so many of the openings we work in are decades old, even where the door itself has been replaced. A lot of homes are brick veneer on a slab with a composition roof. The front of the house tells us nothing about the garage opening, so we measure the actual opening and look at the framing before any part goes in.
If your house sits in or near one of the low-lying playa lakes, sometimes called buffalo wallows, it has a higher chance of flooding. Tell us if water has reached the garage slab, because it changes what we expect to find at the bottom of the door.
The City requires contractors doing code-regulated alteration or repair work in Odessa to register with the Building Inspection Office before the work starts. Homeowners acting as their own contractor on the homestead they live in are exempt.

Planning for the Cost
If you want a number to plan around, plan for the top of the band for one repair per door. Springs and cables both run $150 to $350, so a few hundred dollars per door covers the common failures.
We get about 13.5 inches of rain a year here. June is the wettest month at around 1.8 inches, and February is the driest at about 0.6. Doors spend most of the year dry, and we often find grit in the tracks and rollers. Clearing it and replacing a worn roller costs far less than replacing the parts it would wear out.
